SPDM3 - Kash Boy Trill, mixtape review

    

        From the album cover of SPDM3 by Kash Boy Trill and its track-listing alone, I was impressed before listening to any of the songs when I received a 'Dr. Dre - Chronic 2001' feel and expected to hear some classic WestCoast songs. Kash Boy Trill has represented Oakland, CA in all of his music including five mixtapes released to date. He stays fluid with SPDM3.  The intro track was released a month early, called 'True Playa' it features a unique vocal sound over loud claps and deep bass that feels like summer. Track two is 'Streets On Lock' which hosts a rare Jadakiss appearance on the hook, also with a verbal annihilation feature from Michigan artist Soul Prophet. This is the hardest street song Trill has done since his debut album in 2019 'Respect & Loyalty'. The most WestCoast song on the mixtape that I was waiting for is track three 'Rockin With tha Best' featuring fellow Kash Boy Records artist BC hailing from San Diego, CA who also produced the song under the alias StandUp Guy. Trill can almost be heard two-stepping on the song which kind of sounds like Dr. Dre 'Next Episode.' "Two step with my drank in my hand" is the hypnotizing hook with a fire verse from BC who is a lyrical WestCoast artist in his own right.

    The Pharrell Williams appearance on track four's 'Rhude' is enough to take a listen, but the Neptunes sounding beat with heavy 808 drums and a synth by The Marauderz that takes you back to 2007 makes you fall in love with Kash Boy Trill's smooth flow in a new way. Definitely a ladies' jam for Trill who has so many female fans to begin with already, proving his content range as an artist. The last song has so much bass in the beat in the very beginning and almost blew out my speakers. It's a smooth laid back flow over the heavy bass from his in-house producer Rockinsince88 on 'Like Me' which is the best club friendly song on SPDM3. Rockinsince88 has been said to work with many different instruments, collaborating with other producers, and calls himself the self-proclaimed 'King of FL Studio'. This musical project SPDM3 aligns with the vantage point which is 'quality over quantity' with great songs that get the job done for the need thereof for hot new summer music. Trill's debut studio album in 2019 was a packed CD full with 18 songs of trap music. Briefly speaking with him, Trill said "expect my sophomore album this summer to be even bigger and better. Remember my name!" He owns the label Kash Boy Records, founded his own lifestyle clothing brand Plattire, and in 2018 branched out to form his own PR/marketing firm ARJMMG. A master of his own craft and already years ahead of his time, I expect this summer to be a special summer for Kash Boy Trill if his second studio album is anything like the great quality music he has been consistently releasing the past few years. 5 out of 5 stars here!
